#1: Pocket Clear (Best Overall)

Rating: 9.5/10 | Price: Free (Pro: $0.99/mo) | Privacy: Excellent | Offline: Full

Pocket Clear takes the top spot because it delivers exactly what most people actually need from a budget app: fast expense tracking, clear spending reports, and complete privacy, all for free.

What We Loved

What Could Be Better

The Bottom Line

If you want a budget app that respects your privacy, works without internet, and costs nothing, Pocket Clear is the clear winner on Android. The optional Pro tier ($0.99/month) adds widgets and cloud sync, but the free version is genuinely complete.

#2: YNAB

Rating: 8.5/10 | Price: $99/year | Privacy: Good | Offline: No

YNAB (You Need A Budget) remains the gold standard for zero-based budgeting methodology. The Android app is solid, if not spectacular, and the envelope budgeting system genuinely works for people who commit to it.

What Held It Back

#3: Monarch Money

Rating: 8.0/10 | Price: $99/year | Privacy: Fair | Offline: No

Monarch Money positioned itself as the premium Mint replacement, and it largely delivers. The Android app is polished, and the shared-account features make it popular with couples.

#4: Goodbudget

Rating: 7.5/10 | Price: Free / $80/year | Privacy: Good | Offline: Partial

Goodbudget is an envelope budgeting app that doesn't require bank linking. The free tier is genuinely usable with up to 10 envelopes. It's a solid choice for users who specifically want the envelope method.

Strengths

Weaknesses

#5: EveryDollar

Rating: 7.0/10 | Price: Free / $79.99/year | Privacy: Fair | Offline: No

Dave Ramsey's EveryDollar app offers a simple zero-based budgeting approach. The free tier is available but limited, and the premium tier unlocks bank linking.

Strengths

Weaknesses

#6: Wallet by BudgetBakers

Rating: 6.5/10 | Price: Free / $35/year | Privacy: Fair | Offline: Partial

Wallet is a feature-rich app from a Czech developer. It offers manual and automatic tracking, multiple currencies, and a reasonable price. However, the interface is cluttered and the app tries to do too much.

Strengths

Weaknesses

#7: Monefy

Rating: 6.0/10 | Price: Free / $2.49 one-time | Privacy: Good | Offline: Yes

Monefy is a simple, visual expense tracker with a unique pie-chart interface. It works offline and has a one-time purchase option. However, it lacks the depth needed for serious budgeting.

Weaknesses

Notable Apps With NO Android Version

Before choosing a budget app, Android users should know which popular apps are not available on their platform:

Copilot Money: iOS Only. Despite being one of the most recommended budget apps online, Copilot Money has no Android version and has not announced plans for one. If you see it recommended in a "best Android apps" list, that list wasn't written by someone who actually uses Android. Pocket Clear is available on both platforms.

This is a significant factor. If you're an Android user or a couple where one partner uses Android, you need an app that works on both platforms. Pocket Clear, YNAB, Monarch, and Goodbudget all support Android. Copilot does not.
