Budget Rollover
By default, each of your budgets resets to zero at the start of every new period — what you didn't spend simply disappears, and what you overspent doesn't carry forward either. For some categories that's exactly right. For others, like an annual "Gifts" budget or a category you're saving up in, it isn't.
Roll over unused budget changes that. Turn it on in Settings → Budgets, and at the end of each period, whatever is left of a category's budget carries into the next one — so a $50 leftover from Food this month means $550 available next month if your budget is $500. If you overspent instead, the shortfall carries too: the next period starts smaller, not at zero.
How it works
- Leftover carries in. Underspend a category and the difference adds to next period's limit.
- Overspending carries in too. Go over budget and the next period starts with less to spend, until you catch back up.
- Every period type is supported. Monthly, weekly, biweekly, and yearly budgets all roll over on their own cadence — a weekly budget rolls week to week, a monthly budget rolls month to month, and so on.
- It applies per category. Each budget carries its own rolled-over amount independently of the others.
It starts counting from when you turn it on
Rollover doesn't back-date anything. The period you're currently in when you flip the toggle on is not included — Pocket Clear starts accruing from the next full period after that. So if you enable it partway through July, July itself isn't rolled over; the carry-in first appears when August begins.
Where to see it
- Settings → Budgets. The Roll over unused budget toggle lives at the top of this screen.
- Reports → Budgets tab. Each category shows a small subtitle — "+$X rolled over" if you're carrying in a surplus, or "−$X from last period" if you're carrying in a deficit.
- Add Transaction. The remaining-budget line for a category already reflects whatever rolled in, so what you see is what you actually have left to spend.
Good to know
- Off by default. Budgets reset to zero each period unless you turn rollover on.
- Pro feature. Budgets — and rollover — are part of Pocket Clear Pro.
- Per-device setting. The rollover toggle is stored on your device and is not synced across your other devices, even with Cloud Sync on.
- It never changes your transactions. Rollover only changes how much budget is available each period — it doesn't add, edit, or remove any transaction.
