Pocket Clear Is Now Available in 8 Languages

For the last year, most of Pocket Clear's growth has come from outside the English-speaking world. Users in Peru leave reviews in Spanish. Users in Algeria email us in French. Reviews from Germany, the Philippines, Brazil, and India keep showing up in App Store feedback in languages the app itself didn't speak back.

As of v1.80, that's changed. Pocket Clear now speaks 8 languages on both iOS and Android.

Why these 8?

We didn't pick at random. We looked at three things: where Pocket Clear is actually getting installed today, which App Store storefronts have the highest ratio of reviews-per-download (a signal that users are engaged but possibly typing in their native language), and which languages currently underserve the privacy-first budgeting niche.

Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Hindi jumped out because install growth in those regions has been fast while most competing budgeting apps are still English-only or only partially translated. German and Italian came next — existing user bases that have been patient with an English UI for too long. Filipino was the clearest signal of all: consistently among the top 10 review-per-install ratios, with essentially no localized competition.

What gets translated

Everything you see in the app is localized: onboarding screens, the home balance and Overall Balance row, Add Transaction, categories and subcategories, Reports, Budgets, Savings Goals, Recurring Transactions, Tags, Transaction Reminders, Partner Mode, Settings, the Pro paywall, and every alert and confirmation dialog.

What isn't translated: your data. Your categories, notes, and tag labels stay exactly as you typed them. Changing the app language doesn't touch a single transaction. If you created a category called "Comida" in Spanish and later switch the UI to English, it's still "Comida". Your entries are yours.

How to switch languages

Two paths:

1. New users see a language picker as the very first step of onboarding. The app pre-selects whatever your phone is set to — so if your iPhone or Android device is in French, Pocket Clear is already in French before you tap anything.
2. Existing users can switch anytime from Settings → Language. The change is instant — no restart, no data migration, no reinstall.

It's a one-tap change. And because all translations ship inside the app itself, they work fully offline, including while you're flying or traveling.

About the translations

We're a small team, so we can't claim every sentence is exactly how a native budgeting expert in that language would have phrased it. The initial translations were drafted by frontier AI models and then manually reviewed for finance-specific terminology — making sure "Money In" and "Money Out" stay as short and clear in Hindi or Portuguese as they are in English, that "Category" doesn't accidentally translate to the broader sense of "genre", that "Recurring" doesn't get confused with "Repeating", and so on.

If something reads awkwardly in your language, tell us. Email [email protected] with the screen and the exact phrase, and we'll fix it in the next release. Native-speaker feedback has already corrected dozens of small issues before launch, and we'll keep crediting contributors in release notes.

Every promise Pocket Clear started with is still in effect — just in more languages now:

What's next

Eight is where we're starting, not stopping. The translation pipeline we built for v1.80 means adding a ninth or tenth language is straightforward once there's clear demand. If you want Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Bahasa, Turkish, Dutch, Polish, or something else — tell us. We prioritize by user demand, not by market-size spreadsheets.
