✈ Travel Mode

Travel Mode is the one-tap way to set Pocket Clear up for a trip: pick the country's currency once, and the Add Transaction amount field starts accepting it, so you can type what's on the receipt with no mental math. It's one of two ways to log an amount in another currency — the other is entering in your secondary currency, which suits people who live across two currencies year-round rather than for a trip.

Your home currency never changes. Your history, reports, budgets, and totals all keep working exactly as before — Travel Mode only changes what currency the Add Transaction amount field accepts while it's turned on.

How it works

Turning on Travel Mode sets your travel currency as the secondary currency and preselects it in the amount field on the Add Transaction screen. A two-button currency switch appears under the amount so you can flip back to your home currency for any single entry, and a live "≈ home currency" line underneath shows what will actually be saved, along with how old the exchange rate is. When you save, the transaction is stored in your home currency — the same as every other transaction in your account.

Turning Travel Mode on also stores the current exchange rate on your device, and Pocket Clear keeps it for 48 hours, refreshing it whenever you have a connection. That's deliberate: it means Travel Mode still converts on the flight out and through a day with no roaming. The "≈" line always shows how old the rate it used is.

If Pocket Clear has no stored rate at all — you enabled Travel Mode while already offline, or the stored rate is more than two days old — it says so under the amount field and asks you to connect once to fetch one, rather than guessing. You can still log the expense in the meantime by tapping your home currency on the switch.

Three ways to turn it on

1. Automatic suggestion. When your phone's timezone changes to a country that uses a different currency, Pocket Clear can suggest turning on Travel Mode with that currency pre-filled. This is on by default — if you'd rather not be asked, you can silence the suggestion in Settings without turning off Travel Mode itself.
2. Manual toggle. Open Settings › Travel Mode at any time, search for a currency, and tap it to turn Travel Mode on — no timezone change needed.
3. "Back home?" prompt. When Travel Mode is on and your timezone returns to your home country, Pocket Clear will ask if you're back and want to turn Travel Mode off. This prompt is a suggestion, not automatic — Travel Mode stays on until you confirm, so a long layover in your home timezone won't switch it off on you mid-trip.

The ✈ indicator

Whenever Travel Mode is active, a small ✈ icon appears in the top bar so you always know at a glance which currency you're entering amounts in. Tap it to jump straight to the Travel Mode screen, where you can change the travel currency or turn it off.

Trips

A trip is a name, a start date, an end date and an optional budget, set in Settings › Travel Mode › Trip. It is separate from the travel currency: a trip inside your own country needs no currency change, and turning Travel Mode on does not create a trip.

While a trip is running, Home, Reports and All Transactions show the trip instead of the month. The month button is always there in the corner, so you can switch back to the calendar month whenever you want and return to the trip just as easily.

Everything you log during the trip is marked as part of it. The mark is shown right on the entry screen, so you can switch it off for anything that isn't trip spending — and change it later from the transaction itself.

You get two numbers: what you have spent against the trip budget, and what is left per remaining day. The second one is the number most people actually check each evening.

A single logged at home line shows spending inside your trip dates that is not part of the trip. Recurring transactions keep running while you are away, and this is where they stay visible instead of disappearing behind the trip view.

The trip ends by itself on its end date. The view goes back to the month on its own, and the trip moves to Past Trips, where it is kept with its total so you can look it up later.

If you travelled with other people and shared the costs, that is what group expenses are for: one place for who paid for what, who owes whom at the end, and a step that adds your share of the trip to your own budget rather than the whole bill.

Your monthly budgets keep running throughout the trip, and a summary at the end tells you where each of them landed.

Trips sync between your own devices. Your partner never sees them.

What Travel Mode doesn't change

• Your home currency stays the same everywhere — Settings, reports, budgets, and every past transaction.
• Amounts are always stored in your home currency — Pocket Clear keeps exactly one currency per transaction — so reports and totals never need a separate "travel" adjustment.
• If you use Partner Mode, your partner sees Travel Mode transactions as completely normal home-currency entries. There's nothing for them to set up or coordinate — Travel Mode is a local, personal setting on your device only.

Turning it off

Go to Settings › Travel Mode and tap Turn Off Travel Mode, or tap the ✈ indicator in the top bar and turn it off from there. The Add Transaction amount field immediately goes back to your home currency. If you'd like to keep the option of typing in a second currency after the trip, leave Allow entry in secondary currency on in Settings and pick a secondary currency — see Secondary Currency.
