How your Wealth data is protected
The Wealth tab lets you connect a brokerage account and see your investment net worth alongside the rest of your money. Linking a brokerage is a bigger trust decision than tracking expenses, so we built this feature to hold onto as little of your data as technically possible. This page explains exactly what happens to your information — in plain language, with no overclaiming.
What SnapTrade is
Pocket Clear does not connect to your brokerage directly. We use SnapTrade, a specialist investment-data provider, to handle the connection. SnapTrade is SOC 2 Type II certified and is the layer that securely talks to your brokerage on your behalf. You can read more on SnapTrade's security page and in their privacy policy. SnapTrade stores the connection to your brokerage on their side, as described in their policy.
Your access key stays on your device
When you connect a brokerage, SnapTrade issues a private access key tied to your account. That key is stored only on your device — in the iOS Keychain or Android's encrypted storage — and never on Pocket Clear's servers. Because we never keep a copy, even we cannot use it to reach your brokerage on our own.
Your holdings are never stored on our servers
Your balances and holdings are fetched live each time you open the Wealth tab. To do that, your device sends its access key to our server, which signs the request and forwards it to SnapTrade — then passes the result straight back to your device. Your holdings pass through our server only for that instant, in memory, and are never stored on our servers. We keep no database of your investments, balances, or positions.
To be fully honest about how this works: because the data is signed and relayed by our server, it does transit our systems momentarily. We say "never stored," not "never seen in transit" — we think that distinction matters.
Access is read-only and revocable
The connection is created as read-only — Pocket Clear can view your holdings but can never place trades, move money, or change anything in your brokerage account. You can disconnect at any time. When you remove a connection or disconnect fully, we tell SnapTrade to delete your data on their side too, so it does not linger.
Your trend history lives on your device
The net-worth trend chart is built from snapshots recorded on your device as you open the app. That history is stored locally on your phone only — never uploaded to our servers.
What "we can't recover it" means for you
Keeping your access key off our servers has one honest trade-off: because we do not have a copy, we cannot restore it for you. If you reinstall the app or switch to a new phone, you will simply reconnect your brokerage — it takes a few taps. Connecting from a new device replaces the connection on the old one.
