Budget Rollover: Unused Budget Now Carries Into Next Period

July 20, 2026 · 3 min read

One of the most common budgeting requests we hear: "I didn't spend my whole Groceries budget this month — why does it just reset to zero?" A hard reset every period is simple, but it doesn't match how a lot of real budgets work. If you underspend on Gifts in November, that leftover should count for something in December, not vanish.

That's what Budget Rollover does. Turn on Roll over unused budget in Settings → Budgets, and any budget left unspent at the end of a period carries forward into the next one instead of disappearing.

  • Leftover carries in. Underspend a category and the difference adds to next period's limit — so unused budget keeps compounding as long as you stay under.
  • Overspending carries in too. Go over budget and the shortfall follows you into the next period, which starts smaller until you catch back up. Rollover isn't a one-way bonus — it's an honest running balance.
  • Works with every period type. Monthly, weekly, biweekly, and yearly budgets each roll over on their own cadence.
  • Starts from when you turn it on. There's no back-dating — the period you're in when you flip the toggle isn't counted, so accrual begins with the next full period.

Where you'll see it

The rolled-over amount shows up in three places: the Roll over unused budget toggle itself on the Settings → Budgets screen, a small "+$X rolled over" or "−$X from last period" subtitle on each category in the new Reports → Budgets tab, and the remaining-budget line on Add Transaction — so the number you see while logging an expense already reflects what carried in.

Budget Rollover is part of Pocket Clear Pro, and the toggle is a per-device setting — it isn't synced across your other devices, even with Cloud Sync on. The full walkthrough is in our help center: Budget Rollover.
