Pocket Clear Pro at a Price You Can Actually Afford

August 21, 2026 · 4 min read

The most common reason people give me for staying on the free plan is not that Pocket Clear is missing something. It is that money is tight. I hear it most from students and from people in the first year or two of working, and it is a completely reasonable thing to say to someone asking you for a subscription.

So we run a lower rate for exactly those people: six months of Pocket Clear Pro at a reduced price, and then it goes to the normal price unless you cancel.

What you get

All of Pro. Not a trimmed-down tier — cloud backup so a lost phone does not mean lost records, sync across your devices, budgets, recurring transactions, partner mode, savings goals, data export. The same product everyone else pays full price for.

The terms, stated plainly

Six months at the reduced rate. After that it renews at the normal price unless you cancel first. I would rather write that in bold than have you discover it on a bank statement.

My honest advice: set a reminder in your calendar for month five. If Pocket Clear has earned its place by then, keep it. If it has not, cancel, and you keep every transaction you entered either way. Six months at a reduced rate is a small amount of money to have risked.

The exact amount depends on your country. The App Store will show you the figure in your own currency before you confirm anything.

We do not check whether you are a student

There is no student ID to upload, no .edu address required, no verification step. If the price is what is stopping you, the offer is for you.

That is deliberate. Verification would mean building a system to make people prove they are poor enough to deserve a lower price, and excluding the twenty-three-year-old on a first salary who is in exactly the same position as the student sitting next to them. It is not worth it. Some people who could afford full price will take the lower one, and that is a cost I would rather carry than the alternative.

How to get it

If you are eligible and interested, email [email protected] and say so. That message comes directly to me, I read every one, and I will send a code back.

If you have been using Pocket Clear for a while, you may also get an email from me about this — in that case just reply to it and say you would like it.

There is no form and nothing to upload. Telling me the price is what is stopping you is the whole process.

One limitation, stated up front: the reduced rate is currently available on iPhone and iPad only. We do not yet have the equivalent set up on Google Play, so if you are on Android there is nothing I can send you today. I would rather say that here than have you write in and be turned down. It is on the list.

And if you would rather not

The free plan is not a trap or a crippled demo. It tracks income and expenses with categories, subcategories, payment types, search and reports, and on the free plan your transactions never leave your phone at all. Plenty of people use Pocket Clear for years without paying us anything, and that is a perfectly good outcome.

I would rather you used the app and never paid than felt pushed into a subscription you resent.

Common questions

Who is the reduced rate for?

Students and people early in their careers — anyone for whom the normal price is the thing standing in the way. We do not ask for a student ID or a .edu address, and there is no verification step. It works on trust, because the alternative is making people prove they are poor enough to deserve a discount.

What do I actually get?

The whole of Pocket Clear Pro, not a cut-down version: cloud backup, sync across your devices, budgets, recurring transactions, partner mode, data export, savings goals and everything else Pro includes. It is the same product at a lower price for six months.

What happens after six months?

It renews at the normal price unless you cancel. That is the honest version and we would rather say it plainly than bury it. Set yourself a reminder around month five: if Pocket Clear has not earned its place by then, cancel before it renews.

How much is it exactly?

It depends on your country. The App Store shows you the exact amount in your own currency before you confirm anything, so you will never be surprised by the number at checkout.

How do I get it?

Email [email protected], say the price is what is stopping you, and ask. That message goes straight to the founder and a code comes back. If you have been using Pocket Clear for a while you may also receive an email about it, in which case simply reply to that. There is nothing to prove and no form to fill in. Note that the reduced rate is currently available on iPhone and iPad only — the equivalent is not yet set up on Google Play.

Is the free version crippled without Pro?

No. The free plan tracks your income and expenses properly, with categories, subcategories, payment types, search and reports, and your data stays on your device. Pro adds backup, sync and the heavier features. If the free plan does what you need, use the free plan.

What happens to my data if I cancel?

Nothing is deleted. You keep every transaction you have entered. You lose the Pro features, not your records.
