Cloud Sync

Cloud Sync securely backs up your transaction data to Pocket Clear's servers and keeps it in sync across all your devices. If you log a transaction on your phone, it appears on your tablet within moments. If you lose your phone or switch to a new one, simply sign in and your data is restored automatically.

Data travels to Pocket Clear's cloud over TLS 1.3 and is stored encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM, the same cipher used by banks and governments. Access to it is restricted to running the sync service — we never sell it, never use it for advertising, and never train AI models on it. If you leave Cloud Sync off, your transactions never reach us at all.

Cloud Sync runs automatically in the background. Every time you add, edit, or delete a transaction, the change is queued and synced within seconds when you have an internet connection. If you are offline, changes are stored locally and synced the next time you connect. You never need to manually trigger a sync.

What syncs

It isn't only your transactions. The setup you've built around them travels too, so a second device doesn't arrive as a blank slate you have to configure again:

• Transactions, with everything attached to each one — note, tags, payee, payment type, transfer details and time of day.
• Categories and subcategories, including every one you've created yourself.
• Payment types, with their opening balances and the order you've dragged them into.
• Payees.
• Budgets, including per-month amounts where you've set them.
• Savings goals, along with every contribution and withdrawal you've recorded against them. This is new — goals used to live only on the device that created them, and a reinstall lost them.

Your settings stay on the device on purpose, because they describe how this phone should behave rather than what your money did — appearance, text size, language and your reminders are all set once per device. Recurring rules are local to the device that created them as well; the transactions they generate sync like any other.

How to enable Cloud Sync

1. Open Pocket Clear and tap Settings (gear icon).
2. Tap Cloud Sync.
3. Toggle Cloud Sync on.
4. Sign in with your Pocket Clear account (or create one if you haven't already).
5. Your existing data on this device will be uploaded over TLS and stored encrypted at rest. Future changes sync automatically.

What if I lose my phone?

• Install Pocket Clear on your new device and sign in with the same account.
• All your synced data will be downloaded and decrypted automatically.
• Cloud Sync is also required for Partner Mode — both partners must have it enabled to share data.
