Build a Money Habit With Daily Rings

October 2026 · 4 min read

A money habit is built one ordinary day at a time. The trouble is that most of what an expense tracker shows you moves slowly. Your Power Score reflects the last 30 days, so one good day barely nudges it, and one bad day barely dents it. That's the right design for a score, and a weak one for motivation.

So in version 2.17 the Power Score card on Home gets three daily rings. The score still tells you how the habit is going over weeks. The rings tell you what to do today.

The three rings

All three reset at midnight.

How the Grow step is picked

The step is chosen once a day and stays put, so it doesn't change under you. In order:

  1. If a budget is over its limit, bring it back under.
  2. Otherwise, try the next feature you haven't used yet: a recurring transaction, a widget, a custom category. On the free plan it only suggests free features, and it never suggests something you skipped in the Setup Guide.
  3. Once you use everything, review your week in Reports.

The features it suggests are the ones the score already counts, so taking the step usually moves the number too.

Why rings, not just a streak

A streak only asks one question: did you log today? Miss a day and it drops to zero, which is exactly when people give up. The rings ask three smaller questions, and each one is easy to answer today. Log one coffee, stay on pace, take one step.

Close all three on consecutive days and the card shows Rings closed N days in a row. Your day streak hasn't gone anywhere: tap the card and the detail screen shows your current streak and your best one.

One line under the step keeps the bigger goal in view. Closing all three is how you climb toward the top 1% of people using Pocket Clear, and once you're there, how you stay there. When a ring closes while you're on Home, you get a light tap and a small pulse.

Private, like the score

The rings are worked out on your phone from entries that are already on it. Their history stays on the device. What leaves the phone is what already did: your score, as one number, so the rank chip can compare it, plus a count of days you closed all three. Never a transaction.

Rings are free, on iPhone and Android. If you'd rather not see the card, hide it under Settings → Appearance → Hide on Home.

How the score itself is built is in How we score a money habit. Every ring rule is in the help centre: Daily rings.

Questions

Do the daily rings change my Power Score?

No. The score formula is unchanged. The rings show what you can do today, and most Grow steps are things the score already counts, so closing them tends to lift it.

I don't use budgets. Can I close the Budget ring?

Yes. Without budgets, the Budget ring compares today's spending with your average day over the last 30 days. In your first week it simply counts as closed.

Where did my day streak go?

Tap the Power Score card. The detail screen shows your current streak and your best one. The Home card shows the rings streak instead.

Are daily rings free?

Yes, on iPhone and Android. On the free plan the Grow ring only suggests free features.
